About Collections Online

Collections online provides access to images and information from some of Leicestershire County Council's most significant collections by making records from its database and related information available through the website.

Development was funded by the County Council and supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund in a project entitled "Open Doors". The project ran from August 2002 to March 2005 and provided resources for staff and equipment to take pictures and research information, and develop the technical framework for the website.

Information is presented through a searchable visual catalogue and a series of themed highlights chosen by curatorial staff, which consist of:

• a selection of key object records
• articles providing historical and social background to the objects
• a bibliography
• suggestions of further sources of information about the subject, such as other websites, relevant organisations, and museums with similar collections
• how to get in touch with Heritage Services to see the objects either on display at a museum or at one of our resource centres

During 2005-6 we will continue to add more records to the site, including highlights from our archaeology collections, historic photographs of Market Harborough and more from the Toys and Games collection.
