Doll with a cloth body and glazed white china head, arms and legs. It is wearing a full length cream dress with lace trimming around the collar, cuffs and hem of the skirt. Underneath the dress, the doll is wearing cream bloomers which feature decorative flower details around the bottom of each leg.
Made around 1850, this doll, with its shiny white face, is a typical example of a glazed china doll. The use of ceramics in doll making was developed in the 19th century and became increasingly popular. There are three main types of ceramic or porcelain doll - glazed china, untinted bisque and bisque.
